Robert Saleh not counting out Haason Reddick from playing Week 1: 'He still has plenty of time'

The New York Jets kick off the 2024 season in less than a fortnight, yet Haason Reddick remains away from the club.

Head coach Robert Saleh noted on Tuesday that the edge rusher could suit up for Week 1 if he reports in time.

"Yeah, I'm assuming he's in phenomenal shape," Saleh said, . "He's a veteran. He knows what he needs to get ready. He's had success in multiple buildings and multiple schemes with multiple coaching staffs, so he's going to know what he needs to do to be ready for Week 1.

"So he still has plenty of time."

On April 1, Reddick reported to the Jets' facility for a physical following a trade from Philadelphia to New York. He's been holding out since.

Reddick made it known before the swap that he'd desired a new deal. With none on the horizon, the 29-year-old requested another trade earlier this month. Gang Green immediately nixed the idea that they'd part with the edge rusher they traded a conditional 2026 third-rounder to acquire.

Reddick hasn't commented, but on Monday, his personal coach posted a video on social media of him doing agility drills. Saleh said he hadn't seen the video.

"Did it look good?" Saleh said on Tuesday. "I bet it looked good."

The Jets placed Reddick on the reserve/did not report list last month.

Saleh said he hadn't spoken to Reddick recently to aid a resolution.

"No," he said, "I've just been focusing on the guys that have been here."

The Jets kick off the season on Sept. 9 against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
