2023 NFL season, Week 8: Notable injuries, news from Sunday's games

Here are the injuries and news we're monitoring around the league on this Week 8 Sunday:

  • Arizona Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs will start in Week 9 against the Browns, head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters Sunday. Quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) is considered day to day, Gannon added. Running back Damien Williams (foot) did not return against the Ravens.
  • Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (knee) did not return against the Titans. Wide receiver Drake London (groin) also left and did not return to the game.
  • Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (knee) did not return against the Chargers.
  • Houston Texans tight end Teagan Quitoriano (groin) and center Jarrett Patterson (ankle) did not return against the Panthers.
  • Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay (tailbone) did not return against the Broncos.
  • Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (thumb) did not return against the Cowboys after a two-point conversion attempt at the end of the first half. Rams head coach Sean McVay said he was "hopeful" Stafford would return to finish the game, but after an update by the medical staff, he found out his Stafford would not be able to return. Defensive back Cobie Durant (shoulder) also left and did not return to the game.
  • Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins (ankle) is feared to have suffered an Achilles injury against the Packers, per head coach Kevin O'Connell.
  • New England Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker (head) and linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley (hamstring) did not return against the Dolphins. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne also did not return and will have an MRI Monday to evaluate his knee injury, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
  • New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor did not return against the Jets and was taken to Hackensack Medical Center for further examination after suffering an injury to his rib cage. He will remain in HUMC overnight for observation, the team announced. Tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) was also ruled out.
  • New York Jets defensive lineman Al Woods (calf) and offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer (calf) did not return against the Giants. Center Connor McGovern (knee) was ruled out and is dealing with an issue to his kneecap, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. McGovern will have an MRI on Monday to determine the damage caused by the injury and is expected to miss time, Rapoport added.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett (ribs) did not return against the Jaguars. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring) also left and did not return.
  • Philadelphia Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra did not return against the Commanders after being evaluated for a concussion. Defensive tackles Milton Williams (shoulder) and Jalen Carter (back) also left and did not return.
  • Washington Commanders center Ricky Stromberg (knee) was ruled out against the Eagles. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel (toe) did not return.
